Horrible Fishing Offshore in Southern California 2019

I now believe the hearsay - Excellent fishing comes in every 10 years in Southern California. When I arrived here in San Diego back in 2008, the fishing was so-so but then after a couple of years the fish count was mind blowing, it keeps climbing year after year! That's when I met an elderly guy at the OB pier telling me stories on how excellent fishing back 10 years ago. Back in 2014, massive school of anchovy stayed the shore for almost a week or so. During that time fishing was awesome! Huge number of bonito have been caught off the Ocean Beach pier. You can literally fill up a container full of bonito (5 fish a day only california law). So let's fast forward 2019, I went out fishing today with my cousin and we were just perplexed, went home empty handed (not really zero but the expectation was high) from a full day of sport fishing. Horrible Fish Count This Year in Southern California

Last year's fish count was way better than this year, I took a screenshot on HMLanding's fish counts for this month and same month of last year and the result was pretty bad. But like the saying goes, we're fishing not catching! That's the beauty of Sport Fishing!
